Some ideas after building a mock up

Side Window
-two siding panels in glass
-tinted
-solar collector

Front exterior door
-slides into wall
-possibly on a arced track
-screen door on same track

Angled Ceiling to transition toward back
-padding at exit

Separate door or panel to separate bed area
(helpful when cold outside)

Fold down bench in changing area
-fold down table to watch tv and eat dinner

Hammock
-that works both as a bench and place for storage

Front area needs to be larger than mocked dimensions

Tv
-on ceiling
-folds down on track

Mirror in the changing area

Exterior hammock stand

Separates into two sections to fit into freight elevator

Refugee Camp Design

Interesting Housing Idea

Rooftop Wind Turbine

Here is a video showing a new idea for a wind turbine which could potentially be incorporated into our design.

Problem Statement

Given the need to step back and identify what we are actually trying to solve, and given that we had essentially already been working on the aesthetics of a solution with which we weren't fully comfortable, I thought it appropriate to write a problem statement to identify exactly what we were trying to find a solution to.

This should help us brainstorm on solutions and not limit us to one idea.

Mark Twain on Travel

I just thought this was a quote that fit the why we are doing what we are doing with this pod.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men (women) and things cannot be   acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.  - Innocents Abroad, Mark Twain

This is a good place to start our visual profile for our young traveler.

Inspiring Images

If the product is meant to stack, here are some images to help inspire how.

Rooftop Design Project

Parsons students created a rooftop educational facility.

Week 2

We are going forward with the idea of a pod-like hotel solution that can be used in a variety of locations. The solution may incorporate separate pods for things like bathrooms and storage and ideally the solution would be a modular collection to make it more applicable to that variety of locations.

Create visual profiles of users

Find inspirational images to help with sketch ideas and design solutions

Sketch ideas of pods thinking of how to incorporate storage and restrooms while also exploring how they integrate with each other. Some examples might be elevated or stacked pods and/or integrated or separate restrooms. Try to incorporate environmentally sustainable elements into the design when sketching.

I have heard of these before but they are still relevant

PODS

Maybe Airport Pod Hotels

People are already sleeping in airports, why not give them a little more safety for a small fee. Here is a whole site dedicated to the art of sleeping in airports Sleep in Airports. People are even sleeping in the DTW, it could be an opportunity to go do some more research. I'm sure I could convince my roommates to go sleep in the airport with me one night.
